About fellow

I finished my PhD at University of Oslo in 2004. In 2005, I was employed at University College of Volda as Associate professor in older history, as professor from 2010. Since fall 2012 I have been professor of medieval history at University of Oslo, with an adjunct position as professor at University College of Volda. I have published two monographs: Unpredictability and Presence: Norwegian Kingship in the High Middle Ages (Leiden 2008), and The Reality of the Fantastic: The Magical, Geopolitical and Social Universe of Late Medieval Saga Manuscripts (Syddansk universitetsforlag 2017). I have pubished around 30 scholarly articles in anthologies and journals, mostly on high medieval Scandinavian political culture and late medieval Icelandic manuscript culture. In addition, I have co-edited a number of anthologies, such as Disputing Strategies in Medieval Scandinavia (Brill, 2013), The Power of Practice. Rituals and Politics in Medieval Scandinavia c. 650-1350 (Brepols, 2015), and three volumes on Nordic Elites in Transformation (fortcoming, Routledge). I am main editor of a four volume History of Norway (Aschehoug 2011), and of a four volume History of Sogn and Fjordane (in print, Fagbokforlaget 2017). I have received several scholarships and I was given the award for the most innovative article in 2010 with the article ”Norsk middelalder i et antropologisk perspektiv. Svar til Knut Helle”, Historisk tidsskrift 2 2010.
