Helle Vogt’s research has mainly focused on comparative studies of Nordic law and legal practice primarily in the middle ages and early modern times. A big part of her work has focused on penal laws, inheritance, kinship, the construction of family, and how local law interacted with religious norms and learned law – Roman and canon law. A dominant theme in her research career is to examine how legal and religious norms and rules shape space of action both for the individual and for specific groups.
