Yi He attended Zhejiang University, graduating in 2000 with high honors and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. In 2003, he received his Master of Science in Biochemical Engineering, also from Zhejiang University.
After completing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle, he joined Corning Incorporated as a postdoctoral research engineer. In 2009, he moved back to Seattle and continued doing his research in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. In 2012, he joined the Zhejiang University faculty in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. His current work has been primarily focusing on air pollution control, energy storage and conversion, and separation technologies. The goal of his research is to provide new technologies which minimizes pollution, promotes sustainability, and protects human health without sacrificing economic viability and efficiency.
