Former CAS group leader Professor Trond Helge Torsvik has been awarded this prestigious prize for his outstanding work in geophysics.
Torsvik, who is based in the Department of Geosciences at The University of Oslo, will receive the prize at the Annual Meeting of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, on May 3, 2017.
In 2010/2011, Torsvik led the CAS research project Mantle dynamics: Linking surface and deep processes.
Developing accessible software
They add that his development of software for the analysis of such movements—software that Torsvik has made accessible to everyone—is what he is best known for.
Stating that Torsvik is highly qualified as a recipient of the prize, the committee highlight the fact that he has conducted outstanding research over many years.
